Scratchy Socks!

Finally finished the socks I’ve been working in for a while last week.

They are made of hand-spun yarn and are pure wool, but I’m hoping they will be fairly durable as the Lincoln I have used for the foot is really long and thick strands. They are super scratchy though. The wool I’ve used for the ankle section is softer so that helps a bit. I’m not actually sure what breed it is…

I’ll be the first to admit they are not the prettiest socks. The Lincoln fibres are very stiff, which I think is why it comes out very uneven.

They are very warm though.

The top section is dyed with black beans and the bottom with pomegranate. There wasn’t quite enough of the black bean wool, which is why there’s a stripe from another batch on one of the socks, but I actually quite like that.

The heel is a band heel. It’s the first time I’ve tried it, and although I liked knitting it I’m not quite sure I like the result as you get a ‘seam’ underneath your heel.

The Lincoln I bought from World of Wool.
